When I think of my own Father who has been with Jesus for forty-four years, I see his crystal blue eyes. When I looked into those eyes I could see Jesus. My father taught me that the most important part of life is love: The love of Jesus, the love for family and the love for one another. This was an amazing gift that was given to him by our Lord and Savior and he made sure his children knew the Jesus he knew.
In the gospel of Luke we find Jesus’ teachings on the love of a father. In Chapter 15 Jesus tells three consecutive parables. Vernon McGee states: “Customarily it is called three parables, The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin and The Parable of the Lost Son. Actually, it is three parts of one parable; it is three pictures in a single frame.” It is known as a triptych. The first part The Parable of the Lost Sheep gives us confidence that Christ is always keeping His eye on us and will bring us back if we get lost. The second part, The Lost Coin tells us that we are valuable to Him. The third part is The Parable of the Lost Son also know as The Prodigal Son. In this part of the parable we find the unconditional love that Jesus has for His children. This brings us to the greatest love of all: The love of God.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Love begins with the love of God and His Son Jesus who taught us to love one another. “I will forgive you”, what wonderful words to hear. What comfort it brings to know that we have a Father who will never leave us, who sees our worth and whose love is unconditional if only we believe. He is watching and waiting.
Thank you Jesus for loving me.
Amen
