Every year in November our thoughts turn to Thanksgiving. It is a time when our memories of years past go into a full overload. It is a time when we remember the loved ones we have lost and the Thanksgivings we shared.
Growing up in a large family was wonderful. Our Thanksgivings were filled with family, food and hearts giving thanks. We were blessed! Our tradition was to gather around the table, hold hands and each of us gave thanks for one thing which we were thankful for. I remember one particular Thanksgiving when we began our thanks, it seemed like it would be next Thanksgiving before we would eat. My brother-in-law, Robert was the last to give Thanks. He said: “I am thankful that I am the last person at this table. Amen! Let’s eat”.
Today out of 7 children there are 2 of us left to celebrate. I choose not to dwell on the loss of my loved ones. I choose to Thank God everyday for every blessing He has bestowed on me. I thank God for the memories of years gone by and for the wisdom to know that the best is yet to come. One day we will gather at Jesus’ table. Oh what a day that will be!
1 Thess 5:18
In everything give Thanks:
For this is the will of Christ Jesus for you.
Psalm 100:4-5
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures all generations.
Count your Blessings
Name them one by one!
Give thanks for all God has done for you.
Thank God for the past and the memories.
Thank God for the present and the chance to make new memories
Thank God for the future that we again will share the best Thanksgiving ever.
Praise God!
To all who read this: Have a Happy Thanksgiving and make all the memories you can.
