COMMITTING TO SERVE

by: KAY DILLS

    JOHN 12:26

If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also.  If anyone serves Me, my Father will honor.

Dan and I were blessed to find each other again after 43 years.  We both knew that God’s hand was at work in our lives.  But still there was a hole in our hearts.  As Melba so accurately referred to it as a “God Spot”:  a spot only God can fill.

We both had been out of church for sometime and knew that we needed to get back.  So we began visiting churches.  Three years ago on July 8th we walked through the doors of Ranlo Baptist Church.  God had led us here for a reason.  As we were leaving that Sunday, I noticed the sign above the door, which reads:  Depart and Serve.

Although we came to church every Sunday, we both hesitated about joining the church because we both knew joining the church meant commitment.  It meant committing ourselves not only to God, but also to the church itself.  It meant going to Sunday School, Wednesday night Bible study and helping out in the church in anyway we could.  It meant serving God.  It meant giving of our time, our money, our talents and ourselves.

On October 14. 2018 we joined Ranlo Baptist Church and our lives changed.  The “God Spot” was beginning to fill.  We became not just members of the church, but active members of the church.

Joshua 24:15

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Serving the Lord, giving of yourself and using your gifts are not burdens: they are blessings.

The longer I serve him, the sweeter he grows.
The more that I love him, more love he bestows.
Each day is like heaven
My heart overflows.
|The longer I serve Him, the sweeter He grows.
