Living A Balanced Life

Proverbs 8:32 Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Soloman is struggling with “living under the sun”.  He is seeking satisfaction in a world where satisfaction in earthly treasures does not exist.  He is searching for a balance in life.  I am sure you have heard the expression “I brought you into this world and I can take you out”.  It is the same with God.  He brought you into this world and He surely will take you out.  What you chose to do with this life He has given you is up to you.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven.

As I read the words of Soloman found in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, I realize that every season of our life is designed by God and our choices can have a negative effect or a positive effect.  Believers must use time as God intended by doing the right thing at the right time.  God’s time is not our time.  God alone is perfectly in control of our lives including the timing of our seasons.  One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard is ‘The Hymn of Promise’ by Natalie Sleeth:

In the bulb, there is a flower
In the seed, an apple tree,
In cocoons, a hidden promise
Butterflies will soon be free.

In the cold and snow of winter
There’s a spring that waits to be
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see.

There’s a song in very silence
Seeking word and melody
There’s a dawn in every darkness
Bringing hope to you and me.

From the past will come the future
What it holds a mystery
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning
In our time infinity
In our doubt, there is believing
In our life eternity

In our death a resurrection
And at last a victory
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see.

So where is the balance in life?  The balance in life comes from God and his infinite wisdom.  Living under the sun you will surely fail.  But living under the Son, Jesus Christ you have the assurance that he is in control.  Although we do not always understand God’s way, His wisdom teaches us to trust his will.  Godly wisdom provides not only security in this life, but also in the life to come.  Amen!
